Our delicious beer journey started with the Udderly Dipped Stout. On a whim I had purchased the Turner Dairy Chocolate Strawberry milk, I was expecting the worse but was pleasantly surprised by its yummy well balanced flavor. Udderly Dipped was created in collaboration with Turner's Dairy and it was also exceptionally well balanced. You could taste the strawberry and chocolate notes, but it was still a stout at its core. The other beer we drank that night, Ruby Shaman, was flying out of tap. It is pictured above. It's jewel color and sweet and sour taste were perfectly suited for siting by the fire.
This was a quick trip. We tried 3 half pour beers and enjoyed them all. We had Something T'Art (Sour), Midnight Mexican Hot Chocolate (Stout) and TIL #6 (IPA). The stout was a slightly spicy but fully enjoyable stout that was a little thin. The sour was exactly what we look for in sour, it was fruity and tart and well balanced. They sell Something T'Art in cans, which was a great find.
We tried several beers at All Saints. We started with the 'Angels.' Pictured above is the Dark Angel (Dunkle) and the Archangel (Nitro Pale Ale). The beers were tasty and large. The Dark Angel was a nice pleasantly spiced beer, however the nitro experience didn't seem obvious in the Archangel. Next we had the Crimson Halo (Amber Ale). The Crimson Halo was our favorite. It was a beer that we could have drank all day. It had a lovely malty flavor that went well with our lobster rolls.
Pictured above was our favorite - Carrington St. Kolsch. We tried all the beers, because flights were reasonably priced and we had great friends to share the beer. The stout was very strong it had an almost charcoal flavor. The Dounton Way Dunkel was also excellent. Both the Dunkel and Kolsch were not to hoppy and very pleasant to drink. They came highly recommended by our waitress and she was right!
We stuck with dark beers on this visit. We had the Mudlust Coffee Porter, O'Reilly's Stout, and Softly Falling Darkness Oatmeal Stout. Mudlust was the favorite. O'Reilly's Stout was described as a Irish-style Dry Stout and had a unique after taste. These beers were all fine, but perhaps weren't the ideal pairing with the pizza we were eating for dinner.
We tasted a lot of beers, because there were a lot of beers to taste. The group favorite was the Coffee Putin. It had an incredible coffee flavor and none of that weird after taste that sometimes accompanies this style. Personally, the Klark Bar was the most intriguing beer. It actually tasted exactly like the Pittsburgh favorite Clark Bar. The Drie Apen was a split decision. Two people got it and neither finished it, but both reported enjoying it initially.
The Haviken was our favorite beer! It was smooth and solid. We also had their seltzer which was yummy. Toucan Slam was consumed with mixed reviews. One of us didn't like it, the other ordered a second! It is a sour beer with a strong nose and a fruity taste.
We were with a group of people for this visit. We had a Jalapeno Machete and it was lovely. Not too spicy, but definitely full of the jalapeno flavor. We also had a Ski Cap, which seemed to be the group favorite.
The Trees! Turns out I dig spruce and juniper in beer and this one was superb. Sadly, The Trees has been replaced by Blood Light Lime, which we didn't taste but I appreciate the name!
At Couch we tasted all the beers they had to offer. Our favorite was the Lunar Module 5. We tend to like hazy ipas!
This was the first place we went right after Christmas. Holiday Beers were still on tap. We took pretty pour (get it) tasting notes. I know we had the Squish and really enjoyed it.
